Introduction of the Case

Epson helped power the world's first large-scale projection on Victoria Falls. Created by live entertainment company Roarr, the project combined storytelling, projection mapping, lighting, and live performance to transform the iconic waterfall into a breathtaking visual experience. Spanning 1.7 kilometers (1.1 miles) wide and 150 meters (490 feet) high, the projection used the natural backdrop of Victoria Falls to share a story about the relationship between nature and humanity with audiences from around the world.

Decision Factor

Epson projectors were chosen for their exceptional brightness and image quality, providing a reliable solution for the challenging outdoor environment. A combination of 20,000-lumen WUXGA and 4K projectors enabled seamless edge blending and consistent image coverage across the waterfall and surrounding gorge.

"Epson's technology gave us the flexibility to blend multiple images seamlessly, even with the constant movement of mist," said Augusto. "The reliability and color performance were critical to delivering the immersive storytelling experience we envisioned."

Installation

The project used twelve Epson projectors in a stacked two-by-five configuration, with additional projectors highlighting the gorge and surrounding rock formations. Precise alignment and edge blending were essential to maintain a seamless visual experience despite the constantly changing mist and moving water.
