Introduction of the Case

The Noorderkerk in Amsterdam is a historic 17th-century church that now hosts a unique immersive experience. Both Vincent van Gogh and Rembrandt van Rijn attended services here—though they lived nearly two centuries apart. Today, the venue comes alive with a 360° projection show that explores Van Gogh's deep admiration for Rembrandt and how the Baroque master influenced his artistic vision. Through light, sound, and excerpts from Van Gogh's letters, visitors are surrounded by the works and worlds of these two iconic Dutch painters.

Decision Factor

The requirement for the projectors was to have beautiful color reproduction and very high brightness in order to demonstrate the artists' work in the best way. The projectors also had to be as small and light as possible.
Following a test with the projectors at the site, Epson projectors were selected for the reasons below:

  1. 1) The price to quality ratio
  2. 2) Light output and color reproduction
  3. 3) Size and weight
  4. 4) Ease of maintenance
  5. 5) Choice of lenses
  6. 6) Long laser life and 3LCD durability
  7. 7) Low power consumption

Installation

There was a very short timeline for the museum installation—just one month to design, procure, and implement the experience—but the collaboration of all parties made it possible.
The building's characteristics made the installation challenging, but this was eased by Epson's flexible range of lenses.
