Introduction of the Case
Swansea University are using immersive projection to simulate practical environments for its medical students to make the transition between learning and placement as seamless as possible. This installation at Swansea University uses 33 x Epson EB-PU1006W 6,000-lumen 3LCD laser projectors, each complete with a ELPLX01WS ultra-short-throw 'snorkel' lens to create immersive learning environments for simulation of real-life scenarios.
Decision Factor
The aim of the project was to improve simulation based learning in order to ultimately improve patient safety and better prepare students through the transferrable skills gained.
The Epson projectors are able to recreate highly realistic environments thanks to their high quality output.
The use of Epson projectors with ultra-short throw, zero-offset lenses was perfect for creating floor-to-ceiling environments that are as realistic as possible.
Installation
The ultra-short throw lenses provide floor-to-ceiling projection while remaining discreetly installed at ceiling height, thanks to their zero-offset. The use of white projectors and lenses also blends seamlessly into the clinical environment. Sensors and cameras have also been integrated into the immersive space to add interactivity and touch-sensitive walls, providing an advantage over large-format screens.
