Epson's Original Robot Technologies

In recent years, industrial robots have played an increasingly important role in factories worldwide. Used to perform tasks such as transporting, assembling and packaging products, they are adapted to fit the manufacturing process for products as varied as electronic components and food. Original technologies

Epson's products are all based on the company's original compact, energy-saving and high-precision technologies that it has nurtured since it was founded. In the case of robots, these technologies translate to compact design, energy efficiency, high-precision control, superb durability and high-speed operation.
Precision mechatronics is what Epson calls the technologies that allow its robots both high precision operation and durability, while the company's original smart motion control technology ensures high-speed, high precision operation and low vibration.

Compact, energy saving and high-precision technologies

Another original Epson technology used in robots is sensing, which allows accurate calculation of time, pressure and motion. By using quartz sensors made with Epson's original QMEMS technology, Epson has been able to improve both the speed and precision of its robots' operations. The company has also employed some of the imaging processing technologies used in its inkjet printers in its robot image sensors. This permits robots to accurately identify the work being processed.

Combining technologies to create revolutionary products

Combining these original technologies has allowed Epson to increase the value of its products and contribute to the automation of efficiency of production. The following diagrams give examples of how this is achieved.

To significantly reduce vibration, Epson adds QMEMS quartz sensors to robots that are based on precision mechatronics and smart motion control technologies. Using these compact, high-performance robots allows customers to automate manufacturing processes in limited space and to improve productivity.

Epson also offers optional functions to improve productivity. One of these is an "eye" function that can recognize the position and color of work on a conveyor belt. Using this option allows the robot to identify and assemble work flowing along the belt both accurately and quickly. This reduces costs because there is no need to for workers to manually align work for the robot.
