Epson Develops True-HDTV (1080p) Ready HTPS TFT Liquid Crystal Panels
for Home Theater Projectors

- TOKYO, Japan, October 27 -

Seiko Epson Corporation ("Epson") has developed a new high-temperature polysilicon (HTPS) TFT liquid crystal panel for true HDTV (1080p) ready home theater projectors. Offering higher definition and better picture quality, the new panel enables the development of projectors that provide spectacularly realistic images. Epson sees cumulative HTPS panel production volume reaching 20 million units in the 2004 fiscal year ending March 2005.

With it sights set on the arrival of home digital cinema, Epson has developed a 1.3-inch, 1080p wide-format panel in response to the need for higher definition, higher image quality, and smaller size. The new panel faithfully supports 12-bit signal processing for playing high-resolution broadcasts with extraordinary image quality. Ultra-realistic images are rendered with color reproduction of better than 1 billion colors and 6,220,000 dots (1920 x 1080 x RGB). The new panel-the first 1080p HTPS product in the 1.3-inch class-offers the ultimate in usability and cost-performance.
