Epson Announces Reference Design Kit for State-of-the-Art Drive Recorder IC

– TOKYO, Japan, November 10, 2009 –

Seiko Epson Corporation ("Epson", TSE:6724) today announced the release of a reference design kit equipped with its state-of-the-art drive recorder IC, the S2S65A30. The new kit became available in November.

The kit comes with everything needed to support the latest drive recorder functions, including an S2S65A30-equipped main board, an analog camera interface board, and Linux-based drive recorder applications.
The drive recorder applications are provided with royalty-free source code, and are available for instant download from Epson online. Having source code included means this kit significantly reduces the time required to develop a drive recorder.

Features of the new kit

  • Comes with Epson's state-of-the-art, ARM-equipped drive recorder IC, the S2S65A30
  • Connects with analog cameras via a CMOS camera- and video decoder-equipped interface board
  • Includes Linux-based drive recorder applications to support the following functions:
    • Recording from two cameras simultaneously
    • Audio recording (requires microphone)
    • Choice of either SD or CF cards for storage of video data
    • Choice of either real time recording or event recording (latter requires accelerometer)
    • Playback of footage on PCs via USB interface
  • Includes IAR Systems* ARM development environment
    • The comprehensive development tools of IAR Embedded Workbench (32KB KickStart Edition)
    • IAR J-Link (JTAG-ICE)

This development kit will be demonstrated at the IAR Systems area of the ARM Holdings booth at the Embedded Technology 2009 exhibition, which is being held at Pacifico Yokohama in Japan from November 18 to 20.
