Epson China Receives "China Environmental Labeling Special Contribution Award" for Outstanding Companies

– TOKYO, Japan, October 28, 2009 –

Epson (China) Co., Ltd. ("ECC"), Epson's Chinese regional headquarters, was recently awarded the "China Environmental Labeling^* Special Contribution Award" for outstanding companies by the Chinese Ministry of Environmental Protection. ECC received a plaque for the award at a ceremony held at the Green Economy Development Forum and the 15th anniversary celebration of the China Environmental Label in Beijing on October 15.

The award is part of a program established this year to celebrate the 15th anniversary of environmental labeling in China. A total of 10 companies and 10 individuals were selected from a pool of 100 environmentally progressive companies that were chosen from the more than 1,000 companies that have acquired the label. The review process looks at companies' attitudes towards environmental issues as well as how they are addressing those issues. Expectations include:

• A progressive environmental philosophy, a strong sense of social responsibility and compliance with national laws and regulations
• A company and brand that actively pursues China environmental labels and has a positive influence on society

ECC has actively pursued the China environmental label for printers since the certification standard was released in May 2005. ECC:

• Began efforts to acquire certification for printers in January 2007;
• Acquired certification for 53 printer models (inkjet, large-format inkjet, serial impact dot matrix, multifunction inkjet) by June 2009;
• Had 38 of the certified models added to the fourth edition of the government green purchasing list in August 2009;
• Is participating in working group to establish environmental label standards for ink, ink cartridges and toner cartridges; and
• Is preparing to acquire certification for ink cartridges once the standards are released.

ECC was one of only two Japan-based group companies to be honored with this prestigious award due to its active involvement in China environmental labeling certification and its CO2 reductions throughout the product lifecycle.

In China, government organizations are expected to purchase products that have acquired the China environmental label. Environmental awareness among consumers is on the upswing, as well. This award not only helps improve Epson's corporate image, but also has the potential to drive sales in the Chinese market.
