Epson joined the United Nations Global Compact in 2004, committing to uphold universal principles regarding human rights, labor and the environment. The Global Compact is a voluntary corporate citizenship initiative proposed by UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan in 1999 at the World Economic Forum. Through the power of collective action, the Global Compact seeks to promote responsible corporate citizenship so that business can be part of the solution to the challenges of globalisation. In this way, companies like Epson can help realize the Secretary-General's vision: a more sustainable and inclusive global economy.
