Epson Venezuela Contributes to the Preservation of World Heritage

Epson Venezuela is proud to be associated with the Caracas City University (Ciudad Universitaria de Caracas in Spanish). The university is the main campus of the Central University of Venezuela (Universidad Central de Venezuela), one of the oldest universities in the western hemisphere and home to up to 70,000 students and staff every year. Designed by the renowned architect Carlos Raùl Villanueva, the site is recognized as a masterpiece of urban planning and was recognized by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site in 2000.

However, after several years of poor administration and lack of funds, the campus was facing serious problems with maintaining and preserving its architectural and natural environment. To preserve this important legacy, the university established COPRED (Consejo de Preservación y Desarrollo), a body dedicated to preserving the university and making a progress report to UNESCO every two years.

Epson strongly believes in supporting the communities in which it operates throughout the world. Epson Venezuela was therefore delighted to sign an agreement with COPRED and the dean of the university to assist in the preservation of the campus and to educate the public about the importance of protecting this important world heritage site.

This project got underway in 2010 when COPRED marked the 10th anniversary of the UNESCO registration with an awareness campaign. As part of the agreement, Epson supplied COPRED with a number of its state-of-the-art products to assist in promoting the preservation activities. These included three Epson Workforce K101 monochrome inkjet printers for the office, an Epson Stylus Photo pro graphics photo printer, an Epson Expression V350 scanner, and a 3LCD projector.
Using these products, COPRED continues to create materials to publicize the necessity of preserving the university's rich heritage. These include office documents, publicity posters, reproductions of the university's many artworks and other printed materials produced by COPRED to promote the relevance of the university its artworks, structure and design.
